Abstract The feasibility of an underground LoRaWAN bushfire temperature sensing node from the point view survivability in a event is considered. Thermal penetration into soil modelled using one-dimensional analytical formulation for semi-infinite solid. A working prototype sensor unit was tested experimentally beneath relatively small (400 mm × 400 base) timber fire. buried LoRa radio (depth 100 mm) with k-type thermocouple monitored analysis demonstrates that under dry conditions, time fire base can endure proportional to square depth burial electronic components and inversely thermal diffusivity soil. original contribution work practical demonstration durability front applications.
